Memorial Garden - Wahlfield Park
The Grand Rapids Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, in a stewardship program with the Kent County Parks System, maintains a Memorial Garden in Wahlfield Park at the corner of M37 (Alpine Avenue) and 8 Mile Rd in Comstock Park.
During our annual Walk to Remember and some monthly meetings, we give you the chance to decorate a stone with your child's name to be placed in the Memorial Garden.
Some of the funds raised at our events are used to add to the garden. During 2016, the old silo base was cleared of weeds, leveled, topsoil added, landscape fabric put down, shredded bark spread over the topsoil. We each brought a plant to place in the garden in memory of our child(ren).
Each year, we work towards raising enough funds to add more plants and place a flowering tree in the garden. We will be adding to the garden as well as maintaining the site for the future. We are hoping to raise enough funds eventually to be able to place a bench at the site so that those that wish for a quiet place to reflect on their loved one, will have a place to sit.
Feel free to stop by the Memorial Garden, add a rock or just sit on the silo base and reflect.
